The sixth episode of our Summer Camp series with Coach Saad takes your little one through a stretching and cardio routine to get the blood pumping and their feet moving.

His warmup incorporates a sequence of moves that starts with high knees. Like running on the spot, your little one needs to lift their knees right up to waist level to really engage the core. This will also get their heart rates up while strengthening the calves, quads, hamstrings, and shins. Next, hit the floor with bear crawls a great all-in-one exercise that will work all the major muscle groups building strength and power. After that, it’s time for your little one to hop on one leg on the spot, developing their core and balance.

The workout is a sequence you would know well if you joined us for our previous episode. Mark out a shape on the floor so your little one can start with front facing in-outs, just like a jumping jack but without using the arms. This workout increases blood circulation throughout the body and controls and maintains blood pressure.

Next, jump side-to-side, in and out of the shape. These jumps activate fast-twitch muscle fibers which play an important role when the muscle contracts against resistance. Finally, it’s time to jump in and out of the shape, but in a front and back movement. Since jumping is used in many sports, these exercises will help your child be more conditioned in these movements.

Watch Episode Six:

If your child is enjoying the sequence of this workout, you can repeat it for them so they can do another if they feel up to it.

Finally, Coach Saad demonstrates an easy cool down, helping the body return to its normal levels and to avoid any post-exercise stiffness.

Stay tuned for the next four episodes of Summer Camp fit ‘n fun for little ones!
