The Neighborhoods League of Football returns to 15 of the country’s regions in 2022, with thousands of footballers expected to take part
The Neighborhoods League of Football returns to Saudi Arabia in the new year, as the Saudi Sports for All announces the third edition of the Kingdom’s largest community league.
Taking place across 15 of the country’s regions, the league is open to amateur footballers aged 18 years and above, with a special league for players aged 35 years and above. The debut league was launched by the NLF Association with support from the SFA in 2017, with two successful editions taking place in 2017/18 and 2018/19.
The NLF Association is the umbrella organization that supervises amateur teams and football centers, with guidance and assistance from the SFA.
The most recent league featured more than 16,400 players from more than 575 teams. The league format included a ‘team phase’ and a ‘knockout phase’, with local champions competing at the national championship.
Football competitions have been central to the SFA’s mission to increase the ratio of people in the Kingdom exercising on a regular basis to 40% by 2030, as mandated by Vision 2030’s Quality of Life Program.
