Multiple race course were on offer for all members of the community to enjoy
The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) hosted the Spartan Race in its latest edition on the 21st of January 2022t the Dirab Motor Park for the second time in Riyadh. Held across 42 countries to date, the year’s first race saw over 4000 attendees, 2000 participants and 170 volunteers turn out for one of the Kingdom’s toughest fitness and endurance challenges of the year.
The race featured dozens of obstacles designed for each participant to boost their strength, stamina and endurance and enthrall audiences from all across the Kingdom and the region.
Dirab Motor Park, situated on the rugged landscape that embanks the southern edge of Riyadh, Dirab, served as a perfect backdrop for one of the most diverse and challenging Spartan Racecourses to date.
The big day kicked off with the 10 km Spartan Super, which had racers battling the cold and the clock while navigating a carefully plotted, 25-part obstacle course. This was followed shortly by the 5 km, 20-obstacle Spartan Sprint in the day’s second half. Getting through the obstacles set across some very tricky terrain, especially with the Spartan Super only an hour or two behind some of its contestants. This was followed by the women’s only Spartan Sprint, a chance for female Spartans to develop their strength, determination and teamwork.
Children aged 4 to 14 also got a chance to enjoy some fun-filled competition with the Spartan Kids races. These three mini-obstacle courses saw the participation of hundreds, with four- to six-year-olds competing across over 800 meters, seven- to nine-year-olds across over 1.6 km, and 10-14 year olds across over 3.2 km.
The races concluded with food and festivities for all, with the day’s music activations continuing well into the afternoon and plenty of refreshments for participants, fans and volunteers alike.
The Spartan Race’s astounding success has once again proved that people of all ages from every corner of the Kingdom are always ready to get out and get active. This is a testament to SFA’s dedication to the Saudi Vision 2030 Quality of Life Program objectives, which aims to increase the ratio of people in Saudi Arabia that exercise on a regular basis to 40% by 2030.
