Global workshop series promotes girls’ participation in sports
The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) joined efforts with The Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA) and Nike Made to Play to conduct the first of the ‘Made to Play Coaching Girls Guide’ global workshops on 3rd of February 2022. The virtual, two-hour workshop included a presentation on the ‘State of Play in Saudi Arabia’ by Ms. Shaima Saleh Alhusseini, Managing Director for Saudi Sports for All Federation, and the introduction of the Made to Play Hijab Product Playbook in celebration of World Hijab Day – observed on 1st of February every year.
Organized by TAFISA and Nike Made to Play to enhance opportunities for girls and women to participate in sport and physical activity, the Made to Play Coaching Girls Guide global workshop series highlights the importance of equal representation at all levels of sports. The initiative aims to empower girls and women in sports through the training and education of coaches, sports leaders, and managers and seeks to improve the quality of sports coaching offered to girls and women by inspiring them to train as coaches. It also aspires to increase the number of physically active girls, trained women coaches, and women leaders across the Global Sport for All Movement.
The organizers connected with SFA for the inaugural workshop as part of their ongoing collaborations with on-the-ground partners in various countries that share their values on encouraging girls and women to take part in sports. SFA cooperates with national, regional, and global organizations to promote sports in the Saudi community and encourage people to adopt active and healthy lifestyles.
The remaining workshops of the series will be held over the next six months, introducing sports coaches, leaders, and managers to the Made to Play Coaching Girls Guide’s tools to motivate and retain girls in sports.
