The Sports for All Federation participated in a number of activities throughout the United Nations General Assembly Week

The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA), as part of its role in activities staged during the 2019 United Nations General Assembly, joined more than 300 event-goers at the Misk Youth Forum under the banner of “Youth Want Impact: Changing Businesses for Good.”

The Saudi Greens, sponsored by Nike for all athletic attire and footwear, were invited to take part in a Misk Youth Forum panel discussion. The teammates highlighted the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the importance of incorporating the SDGs into daily life.

During the conversation, the Greens Team elaborated on the origins of their involvement in sports and the SDG awareness movement, and detailed the various activations that they have executed across Saudi Arabia in Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah to draw awareness to SGD #15, “Life on Land”.

Under the guidance of SFA Managing Director, Shaima Saleh Al Husseini, the SFA represented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia across a multitude of additional activations including Walk the Talk lead by Federation President, HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud and Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The Saudi Greens, as the official soccer representatives of Saudi Arabia, competed in the Global Goals World Cup (GGWCup) tournament, ranking second globally. This successful showing follows the Greens Team qualifying in Copenhagen earlier this year, building on the team’s many activities both in the Kingdom, and further afield.

“The Greens Team’s exceptional performance and participation in the Global Goals World Cup is an inspiring step forward for Saudi youth. The Sports for All Federation was proud to have representatives that so clearly demonstrated our values and shared commitment to Vision 2030,” said Al Husseini, remarking on the Team’s impressive ranking.

“As part of the SFA’s participation, we were thrilled to support our national athletes by sponsoring the Greens Team for the duration of the General Assembly week and all of the corresponding events around it,” Al Husseini added.

Held in New York City on September 23, 2019 alongside the United Nations General Assembly, the Misk Youth Forum was staged in the presence of Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the United States HRH Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud. The Ambassador was joined at the Forum by the leadership team of the SFA including Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed and Shaima AlHusseini.

The Ambassador further showcased her support for the Greens team by participating in a panel discussion organized by the GGWCup on the role of sport in achieving UN SDG #15. The Ambassador reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to engaging all citizens in sport, women and men alike. The Kingdom recognizes the transformational power of sports on society, and the imperative value of women in the Kingdom’s growing sports economy, she added.

Haifa Al Magrin, Saudi Arabia’s Assistant Deputy Minister for Sustainable Development Affairs and G20 Affairs at Ministry of Economy & Planning, was a key speaker at the Misk Youth event, taking part in a panel discussion during the five hour gathering that included a number of discussions and workshops. Also amongst the attendees of the Misk Youth Forum were Saudi Arabian students based in the United States who were invited to the day’s proceedings.
