Husein Alireza is an Olympic rower and the Captain of the Saudi Rowing Federation. He qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, reaching the quarterfinals and becoming the first Saudi Olympic Rower to represent the Kingdom, despite racing with a partially collapsed lung after suffering the injury weeks before the race. He began rowing as a hobby during his Master’s at Cambridge University, which quickly turned into a passion.
Hussein was awarded the honor of being the flag bearer at the Olympic Opening Ceremony and was the first Saudi inducted into the Olympic Museum in Lausanne in December 2022, with his oars currently on display. He founded the Saudi Rowing Federation in 2019 and sits on the Athletes Commission for the Riyadh 2034 Asian Games.
